Put Bookends on your phone

It installs straight from the browser — there’s no App Store download and nothing to sign up for.

On iPhone or iPad

You need Safari — other iOS browsers either hide this or put it somewhere else.

  1. 1Open bkends.app in Safari.
  2. 2Tap the Share button — the square with an arrow pointing up, in the bar at the bottom.
  3. 3Scroll down the list and tap Add to Home Screen.
  4. 4Tap Add. Bookends now sits on your home screen like any other app.

On Android

  1. 1Open the site in Chrome.
  2. 2Tap the ⋮ menu, then Add to Home screen (Chrome often offers this by itself).

Why bother installing?

  • Opens full-screen, with no browser bar.
  • Answers “do I own this?” with no signal — the point of the app, and bookshops are where signal dies.
  • Sits on the home screen, so it’s there when you’re out.

One caveat: iOS clears a web app’s saved data if you go about a week without opening it. Everything re-syncs the moment you open Bookends with a connection — but if it’s been a while, open it once before you head out.
